Mrs. Parkington (1943) is an intelligent and very spry 84 year old woman who is also immensely wealthy. She was not, however, born to her wealth. The novel consists of a series of flashbacks that reveal how she acquired her fortune. It also tells of the difficulties of an 84 year old woman who is coping with relatives who want her to bail them out of financial and legal troubles that they have gotten themselves into. I believe this to be one of Bromfield's best works of fiction.
