Colorado-(1947) Louis Bromfield's only Western novel, is set in Silver City, Colorado at the end of the 19th century. With Colorado Bromfield offers a colorful, brawling tale of mining and cattle magnate P. J. Meaney, struggling to maintain his economic and political power as the frontier grudgingly gives way to civilization. The novel's cast of rousing characters includes family members and defenders of the Meany clan, as well as a growing list of Meany adversaries, some of them honorable . . . others not so much so.
With this novel Bromfield once again reasserts his high place in the pantheon of great American storytellers.
