The Strange Case of Miss Annie Spragg (1928): This is a novel consisting of connected stories involving a small group of individuals living in Brione, Italy who become interested in the stigmata, marks of the crucifixion, that are noticed on the body of the elderly Miss Annie Spragg, who is already deceased when the novel opens. The
most absorbing & "story"; in the book is that of Annie Spragg herself, consisting of her mid-western roots in religious hucksterism and the convoluted route by which she ends up in northern Italy.
The novel follows her story back to her birth to a John Smith-style religious prophet on the American frontier. This novel is an odd duck, but it was a worthwhile read.
